Salut! Live Messages

Covid-19 invades our music world. Please get well John Prine

From John Prine's family comes this horribly unwelcome news. It was relayed to me at Facebook by one of my American electronic friends, Stan Wilson, an occasional reader of Salut! Live's (also occasional) pages.

Stan says simply: "Such bad news. Great singer songwriter."

UPDATE (TUES MARCH 31) from John's wife, Fiona, who has recovered from the virus ...

Salut! Live, one of my remaining websites after my decision to withdraw from Salut! Sunderland, wishes all its readers a happy and healthy 2020.

The year behind us has been a shocker. There have been health issues, unsettling though fortunately not major, political issues (it's no secret I am neither a Tory nor a Brexiter) and work issues. And Sunderland AFC languish in midtable in the third tier.

It was also the year in which we lost the excellent fRoots magazine. Its 40th anniversary edition was condemned by insurmountable financial problems to be its last.

Salut! Live wishes all readers a happy Christmas and lots of great music

Santa Sixer - 1

Salut! Live is proud to have brought a discerning if usually quite small audience a treasure chest of excellent music over the 10 years or so of its existence. I wish it could be more active but other commitments get in the way and the refusal of newsnow.co.uk to list the site dampened enthusiasm considerably during 2018 (had they done so, readership would have risen to levels that might make the effort feel worthwhile).

But I shall continue to update Salut! Live as often as I can and am delighted today to wish those regular readers I have, and any others who stray into its pages, a very happy Christmas and a wonderful new year.

A happy Christmas from Salut! Live and that inspired reworking of Streets of London

Sixer santa 1 - 1
Not me in the photo but my friend from boyhood, Pete Sixsmith, who each year forgets the decades he toiled in the classrooms and serves the children of the North East as Father Christmas.

Pete has contributed superbly to Salut! Live just as he does week after week at Salut! Sunderland. I decided his image should be used to convey seasonal messages of goodwill to readers of each of my sites: Salut! Sunderland, this one, Salut! North and the one that launched this little empire, Salut!.

Please check out the other sites and use the search function and sidebar links to explore the vast catalogue of writing on folk music, folk-rock and various related forms.
