Bob Fox, top songman and now War Horse's Songman
November 01, 2011
Great news, on two counts, from Bob Fox, singer of the highest quality, Sunderland supporter and general all-round good bloke.
Bob has landed the role of Songman in the West End production of War Horse. He starts with the new cast on Nov 16.
That's already terrific, for Bob. But I was doubly delighted to hear his news because my elder daughter had bought tickets for her old folks to see the Dec 1 production. Bob - who describes the show as a "great story brilliantly told" - can expect me to take up his offer to meet up before or after the show for drinks.
The photo above shows Tim Van Eyken, another friend of this site, or at least someone known to it, performing the role.
Let Bob explain the impact on his gigs:
It has meant that I have had to "relocate to the city" for a year and sadly cancel a lot of my folk gigs. I'm really grateful to all of the organisers/promoters that have been so understanding and apologise to all of those of you who were looking forward to seeing me! War Horse is a and you really must try to see it. I'm in rehearsals now every day and the new cast will take over on Nov 16. However, I have managed to save all of the PITMEN POETS concerts with Billy Mitchell, Benny Graham and Jez Lowe at NEW HARTLEY MEMORIAL HALL Sat 29th Nov, DURHAM GALA THEATRE Wed 2nd Nov and QUEEN'S HALL, HEXHAM Fri 4th Nov as well as some solo Sunday gigs that I can still do as it's my only day off from the show. Here's a link to the show http://warhorselondon.nationaltheatre.org.uk/ and details of all gigs still on are up on my gigs page at http://bobfoxmusic.com
Congratulations Bob...well deserved! Warhorse has been on our 'to do' list for some time as we missed it on our visit to New York in May. We'll be down in the new year to see you.
All the very best,
Myrna and Michael
